Travelling in New Cross

New Cross station, which is only a two-minute walk from our student housing, offers rail services on the overground and southeastern lines. Get around London with ease as these two lines link up to most major areas or are able to get you to tube lines that will.

Other transport options include the widely used bus routes in London or even the Santander cycles that are available to use for the public. Of course, both of these options have varying costs, so it’s best to check google maps for your journey times and costs before travelling.

If you’ve never lived in London before and aren’t too sure of how far away things are, here’s a handy list of how long it will take you to get to most major universities from our student accommodation in South London:

  • Imperial College London – 45-50 minutes public transport

Things To Do in New Cross

Often touted as South London’s answer to Shoreditch, New Cross is a very trendy neighbourhood with a lot of new developments and green spaces. It’s no surprise that the area which is home to Goldsmiths is a hub for the arts and culture. This is really cemented by the regular live music and comedy nights around the neighbourhood (the Amersham Arms and also the New Cross Inn host a lot of these live events).

There are loads of other fantastic options just minutes from your front door. The New Cross House is a huge pub that serves great pizza and has games for you to enjoy. If you’re in the mood for a traditional British pub then the Marquis of Granby might suit you (it’s also a nice spot to play a bit of pool).

For those looking to get out and about while studying, or if you’re just looking for your daily caffeine fix, there are a whole host of cafes within walking distance. So if you’re stopping off at Mughead Coffee on the way back from lectures, or organising a group project at Red Lion Coffee Co, you won’t be too far away from a good cup of coffee (or tea).
