Since 1898 (when it was known as the ‘West Ham Technical Institute’), the University of East London has created a diverse, inclusive academic community. UEL operates across three campuses: Docklands, Stratford, and University Square Stratford. The Docklands campus (opened in 1999) was the first new university campus built in London for over 50 years!

Docklands boasts beautiful waterfront views of the River Thames and state-of-the-art facilities, like a specialist computer suite and multimedia production centre.

1. Train

For students living in our accommodation near the University Of East London (particularly those in our Camden, Islington, and New Cross properties), several train stations provide routes to UEL campuses:

• Camden: Camden Road Station (served by the London Overground) connects to Highbury & Islington and Stratford. These stations, as well as Camden Town Underground Station on the Northern Line, will give students access to multiple UEL sites.
• Islington: Highbury & Islington Station serves both the Victoria Line and London Overground. From here, you can commute to the Stratford campus.
• New Cross: New Cross Gate Station connects to Canada Water, where students can transfer to the Jubilee Line for access to central London and UEL sites.

Bike

Santander Cycles: London’s bike-sharing scheme, commonly known as “Boris Bikes,” has docking stations near many UEL sites.

• Docklands Campus: Buses 101, 262, and 366 stop near the campus and provide connections from areas like Stratford and East Ham.
• Stratford Campus: Buses 25, 69, 86, and 425 serve the Stratford area.
• University Square Stratford: Buses 69, 257, and 308 stop near the campus and connect students from central and east London.
