All you need to know about clearing, adjustment and AXO Student Living

What is university clearing and adjustment?

University clearing is the process which places students who may not have achieved the results required for their firm and insurance university course, those who have decided to study something different, or those who have made a last-minute decision about attending university, onto a different course. Similarly, adjustment is the process where a student may have achieved higher results than they expected and so they swap to a more preferred course.

It is something that thousands of students go through every year and is considered the peak time for UCAS, universities and accommodation providers alike – so at AXO we are well prepared and look forward to helping you find and book your perfect student home for this September, hassle-free!

When does university clearing begin?

Although clearing begins from 6th July 2020, the biggest surge of activity starts on A-level results day, which is Thursday 13th August 2020. The deadline for applications for clearing is 20th October 2020. To secure the course you want it is best to apply through clearing as soon as you receive your results.

What is the application process?

First, you will need to use UCAS search tool to find the course and university you want to apply to. Once you’ve decided what course suits you best, call the university and check if you meet the requirements and of course whether they still have places left.

Once offered a place log into UCAS Track and add the university and course to your clearing choice. You are only able to add one university at a time.

When should you apply for accommodation?

Once you have been offered a place and know the city you will be studying in, it is time to look and book your accommodation.

How to decide which accommodation to apply to?

Applying for the right accommodation is important. For many of you, this is the first time you are moving out and living alone. It’s key to find a place that will give you the right balance of study, social and personal time.

The requirements you have for accommodation before clearing do not change much after. Whether you’re interested in an en-suite or a studio room, a place close to your university or to really enjoy the city centre, you will be sure to find something suitable.

To make sure the accommodation provider is the right one for you it’s best to check their website, blogs, and social media. You will be able to get a good look and feel for what they are and how they are operated.

We believe that transparency is key when communicating with our students. Which is why we have our full tenancy agreement on our website. We have updated our cancellation policy due to the pandemic and as such gives students the peace of mind that should anything COVID-19 related impact their booking they will either not be held to contract or they can delay their start date based on what their university decides.
